İşte o adam şuymuş buymuş, şu yer şöyleymiş böyleymiş… Aslında konu şöyle başlamış… Eskiden buralar dutlukmuş… Rivayet odur ki Bursa efsaneymiş. Tüm bunlar söylencelerden ibaretmiş…
Ne zaman birisi efsanelerden söz açsa, ağzımız açık dinleriz anlatılanları. Hevesle bir sonraki cümleyi bekleriz. Kuşaktan kuşağa aktarılanlar da vardır aralarında, kayıtlara geçmiş, neredeyse tarih sayılanlar da… Gerçekten olmuş gibi söylenmiş, yazılmış, kim bilir belki de gerçekten yaşanmıştır söylenceler… Bazen hayretler içinde bırakır, bazen doğaüstü olabilir ama çoğunlukla da gerçek kişi ya da olaylara dayanır, ayakları yere basar efsanelerin… Masal gibi hayal dünyasından değillerdir, tanıdık bir simadır hepsi bir yerlerden tanıdığımız.
Yaratılış efsanesinden tutun da Sarıkız efsanesine, Leyla ile Mecnun’dan Ferhat ile Şirin’e… Her şehrin efsaneleri vardır. Bizim de var, çok var hem de. Üstelik her söylencenin çeşitli anlatımlarına rastlamak da mümkün. Aralarından seçmek zor oldu bile diyebiliriz. Kaynaklarımızın ışığında, araştırmalarımız çerçevesinde ışığı bize ulaşanlarını ele aldık. Halk edebiyatı ya da külliyatı diyebileceğim bir harmandan beslenen bu inanışlar, köprü gibi bir marifet de kazanarak bize ışık tutuyor aslında. İnsanın ve oluşturduğu kültürel çatının anlaşılmasında katkısı da var bu güzelliklerin. Atıflarla ya da gerçeklerle örülü, biraz yönlendiren, çoğu zaman söyleyeni belli bu efsaneler…
“Az çok” tarihi gerçeklerle beslenerek yazılı kaynaklara geçen efsanelerimiz çok bizim. Beyimiz babamız, şahımız padişahımız, hacımız hocamız, koç yiğitlerimiz delikanlılarımız; kalemiz sarayımız, camimiz türbemiz, sunağımız mezarımız, dağımız ovamız derken o kadar çok ki efsanelerimiz… Adaklarımız abartımız, latiflerimiz güzellemelerimiz de çok bizim.
Bu nasihatlerin kimisi tarihi yer, kişi ya da olayları, kimisi olağanüstü varlıkları, kimisi bitkileri ve hayvanları, kimisi dini konuları, kimisiyse doğrudan doğayı anlatıyor.
Diğer bir ifade ile “mit” de diyebiliriz onlara. Tarihten bu yana hayatı, ölümü, yıldızları, denizleri, yağmuru vb. konuları anlatageldiler. Diyelim ki Uludağ… Meşhur tarihçi Heredot’a göre medarı iftiharımız Uludağ, mitolojideki Olimpos’tu. Bu ilk ipucu olsun size. Devamını sayfalara gizledik. Enchanted legends from Bursa
Now that man is so and so, this place is such and such… Actually it all began like this… Once upon a time this place was all mulberry fields… Rumor has it that Bursa is a legend. And all these were hearsay…
Whenever one starts talking about legends, we listen to whoever it is in awe. We eagerly wait for the next sentence. There are those that have been passed down many generations, those who have been written down or those that are almost accepted as history… Legends that have been told or written down as if they took place and maybe they really did… They sometimes leave us in wonder, they may be supernatural, but are generally based on real people or events; legends have a firm foot on the ground… They are not from an imaginary world like fairy tales, there is a familiar face in each and every one of them.
From the creation myth to the legend of Sarıkız, from Leyla and Mecnun to Ferhat and Şirin… Every city has legends. Including ours, with far too many of its own. It is safe to say that we had a very difficult time while making our selections. We focused on those that we could reach in the light of our resources and in the framework of the research we conducted carried out. These beliefs that feed on a cultural blend which may be called folk literature or canon actually light the way for us as bridges of a specific kind. These beauties also contribute to understanding humans and the cultural framework they have built. These legends made up of references or reality the tellers of which are generally known…
We have many legends that “more or less” feed on realities and have went down in written sources. We have so many legends from our rulers to our fathers, shahs to sultans, pilgrims to preachers, brave fellows to youngsters; castles and palaces, mosques and shrines, altars and graves, mountains and plains… Along with many offerings and exaggerations, pleasantries and folk songs.
Some of these advices are on historical places, locations, people or events, with some on supernatural beings, some on plants and animals, some on religious issues and some on nature. In other words, we can actually call them “myths” as well. They have been telling us about life, death, stars, seas, rain etc. since the beginning of history. Let’s take Uludağ… According to the renowned historian Herodotus, our pride Uludağ was actually Mount Olympos in mythology. Let this be the first clue for you. The rest is hidden amidst the pages. It is up to you to chase mysterious legends and enjoy yourselves.
