46 bakış açısı point of view “Better have dreams than have legs.” ”Bacağınız olacağına, hayalleriniz olsun.” Returning from the threshold… Kıyıdan dönmek… 20 years ago… A young girl has a serious traffic accident. Perhaps she even dies for a few seconds. When she opens her eyes in the hospital, she no longer has legs. She goes through eight surgeries. Eight very long surgeries. People around her look at Funda with pitiful eyes. She has two choices in front of her. Two choices that you probably have guessed by now. After 9 months, she starts walking with prosthesis legs. Funda Sayan does something she did not do often before. She starts reading, reading a lot. Those around her make fun of her saying, “are you going to be a professor or what?”. She replies, “At least I won’t be cruel.” And she tries to understand life. Funda hangs tightly onto life. She makes a decision saying, “I will walk even if I can’t run and I will live life fuller than those who can run”. She gets married, has 2 sweet kids. She attends university at the age of 30 and graduates. She applies for a job in a bank and gets in. Today Funda is retired from a bank, mother of two children, an impeccable businesswoman. I got to know her by way of an indirect e-mail. She finishes her story like this: “Back then, I was hopping up the stairs rapidly, climbing every tree I saw. I ran too fast, like the wind. Now I walk with a pair of prosthesis legs; it’s fine, I can walk, I can walk with my soul.” What keeps you standing up are your future dreams.
