Bursa’da en iyi gözlem yapılacak nokta Kocaçay expressway during this time must have come across these flocks especially around May. Generally people cannot differentiate storks from pelicans and they view these birds as storks but actually they can be distinguished quite easily with their thick beaks and short necks. We are also very important for the storks. If not, we would not have the only “Stork Village” in Turkey and the 11th in Europe. Storks are actually birds of cut meadows and mown fields. Wetlands are also included. Hence, the region around Uluabat Lake in Bursa is a heaven for the storks. Majority of the storks visit Bursa as they pass over to Europe from the Bosphorus whereas some continue their routes over Bursa, Balıkesir and the Dardanelles. Can you tell us about the story of Fisherman Adem and his loyal friend the stork which was made into a movie? I frequently take part in tourism and publicity activities due to my work with the Karacabey Municipality and so I can carry out different activities in an area that I have knowledge of. (Eski Karaağaç Village on the coast of Uluabat Lake). “Stork Village” is one of my special areas of interest. I give great importance to that village due to both my job, my hobby as well as my love for my homeland. I chat with the people at the village coffeehouse whenever I visit the village. Once, I heard people talking about a man on whose boat a stork landed. Uncle Adem said, “It lands on my boat. So let me take you with me”. And so we arranged a meeting. I missed our meeting because I had to be at the village at 06.00 next morning. He said, “The stork does not wait, it leaves whenever it is full”. So me arranged another meeting with Uncle Adem for the next day. And I witnessed that amazing scene for the first time then. For 6 years, the stork has been landing on his boat and they have been going out fishing together. He used to let go of the living fish that were too small to be of any use and fed the dead ones to the stork. And so I wrote an article for the press about this. This instantly became a symbol of the Leylek Village. The village was trying to publicize itself for 13 years with a festival, but it reached millions of people in a very short amount of time thanks to Uncle Adem. Such villages need a symbol, an interesting real life story. And so Leylek Village found the story it was seeking. We have been following up Uncle Adem closely with cameras every spring for 2 years now. We will make a short film on his life and this friendship which will publicize this beautiful relationship as well as the village itself. This year the stork started landing on the boat with its partner. We are planning to complete the shooting next year and start the editing procedure. Where can the migratory birds be observed in Bursa? Kocaçay Delta is the best spot for observation in Bursa. Because this is a rare region with all the Passeriformes, forest types and water birds. It has a wide range of species that is not only rare for Turkey but also for the world. It is followed by the Uluabat Lake. In addition, Ürünlü Village, slopes of Uludağ and the peak are among other spots suited for observation. Plains and fruit gardens are also nice spots for watching birds. What kinds of activities are carried out in Bursa for migratory birds? Franziska Arıcı and İsmet Arıcı couple in Bursa are set an example for both Turkey and the world with the work they do for storks. This wonderful couple is also behind the idea for the Stork Festival. The Stork Protection Project they started enabled the village to enter the European Stork Villages Network. Karacabey Municipality also puts in a lot of effort for this purpose. It is not yet over of course. Each year, new activities are being carried out to add value to the village and nature. It is the only activity in Bursa for birsa and one of the few in Turkey. And let us talk a little bit about the “Karacabey Longozu Diye Bi Yer Var” project. This is actually a motto I made İspinoz odak noktası focus
