Madrid günlerini kolaylaştırmak isteyenlere önerim kalacak yer planlaması yaparken yıldızına değil şehrin kalbinin attığı mihenk noktası Puerta del Sol ve Plaza Mayor civarında bir yere yakın tercih yapmaları olacak. Bavulları atıp fotoğraf makinelerini boynunuza geçirdiğinize göre, en rahat pabuçlarınızı da ayağınıza geçirip yola koyulmanın vaktidir. Madrid çok büyük bir şehir olsa da hem oldukça düz arazi yapısı hem de gezilip görülecek yerlerin birbirine olan yakınlığıyla rahatlıkla tabanvay marifetiyle gezilebilecek bir şehir. Dileyenler diğer büyük Avrupa metropollerinde olduğu gibi gelişmiş olan ve şehri bir güzel saran metro ağının konforunu da tercih edebilirler pek tabi. Yine de her zamanki gibi bir şehri tanımanın yolu “yollarını arşınlamaktan geçer” diyerek tabanlara kuvvet diyor ve Madrid’i yürüyerek keşfe davet ediyorum. Başlangıç noktamız elbette ki şehrin ve İspanya’nın “sıfır noktası” Puerta del Sol yani Güneş Kapısı. Bugün bir meydan olan, 15. yy’ dan kalma Puerta del Sol, Madrid’i saran eski surların kapılarından biriymiş aslında. Doğuda bulunması nedeniyle, güneşin doğuşundan esinlenerek “Güneş Kapısı” ismini almış. Madrid’in simgesi olan ve belediye arması ile Atletico Madrid amblemine yerleşiveren “El Oso y Madroño” yani ayı ve your most comfortable shoes. Even though Madrid is a very large city, one can easily go sightseeing on foot because of its plain land structure and the fact that all important locations are pretty close to each other. Those who wish can also prefer the comfort of the subway network surrounding the city as is the case in all large metropolitan cities of Europe. Of course we are of the opinion that walking is the best option to get to know a city and so I invite you to discover Madrid on foot. Our starting point is of course the “belly button” of the city and Spain which is Puerta del Sol meaning the Sun Gate. Puerta del Sol dating back from the 15th century is a busy square today which was actually one of the gates of the old walls surrounding Madrid. “El Oso y Madroño” meaning the statue of The Bear and the Strawberry which is the heraldic symbol of Madridas well as the coat of arms for the municipality and Atletico Madrid is also located on this square. I have no idea what a chunky bear shaking up a strawberry tree means and why such a symbol has been selected for the city, but what I do know that it is believed those who touch this statue will visit Madrid again in the future. So touch it and get it off your mind… Not the statue, but all those things that you will not have time to do in several days in the city… There is a historical post office at the square built by the French. The “kilometer zero” plaque on the surface and the clock tower which was added to the building afterwards are quite respected for the Madrileño’s.Since 1962, the
