Van Gogh, Renoir, Monet, Rembrant, Caravaggio ve Picasso’nun belki de farkında olmadan hafızalarınızda yer eden önemli Real Madrid and Club Atletico Madrid but their sports culture is not limited with TV sets or stadiums. We wish the same for our country as well. Museo Thyssen, Museo del Prado and Museo Reina Sofia considered as the leading museums of the world and the most important values of the city are also located in the same region neighboring the Retiro Park. If you leave the park from the gate overlooking the Alfonso XII Street, you may walk over to the Museo del Prado which is the most favorite among these museums. The neo-classical building built during the 18th century was established with 300 pieces from the collection of Ferdinant the 7th and his wife which hosts about 7000 pieces today and has one of the most important European art collections in the world. The most important pieces in this collection are some of the works by Goya and Velázquez as well as important works by Tiziano, Tintoretto, Rubens, Durero, Rafael, Rembrant, Caravaggio, El Greco and El Bosco. Prado Museum is a sanctuary of fine art which can be enjoyed even by those who say “I wouldn’t want to have anything to do with art” let alone those art lovers who already want to visit the museum. The second leg of this trio known as the golden triangle of art would be Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza. This museum located across the Fuente de Neptuno or the Neptune Fountain right at the corner of Prado Museum is owned by the Thyssen Family and even though it has a very modest appearance is home to the second largest private collection after the Royal Collection of England. In addition to works by 14th and 15th century Italian and German painters, works by the most famous painters of the Renaissance, impressionists, post-impressionists and Cubists are on display here. You can visit this museum to see for your very own eyes perhaps the most famous and important works by Van Gogh, Renoir, Monet, Rembrant, Caravaggio and Picasso. The final leg of the triangle would be the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, or in short Queen Sofia Arts Center located at the end of the Paseo del Prado, on the other side of Prado neighboring the Atocha Train Station. The museum that was actually an old hospital building from the 18th century attracts attention with its architectural beauty comprised of reconstruction work including glass and steel supports. The collection is comprised mostly of works by 20th century Spanish artists. The most famous would of course be Guernica by Picasso. The 7,76 m wide and 3,49 m tall monumental painting made by Pablo Picasso in 1937 with orders from the Spanish State depicts the bombing of the Spanish city of Guernica by 28 Nazi bomber planes during the Spanish Civil war and has over time become a reminder of the tragedies of war as well as a symbol of anti- war and pacifist worldviews. The importance and respect towards this painting displayed in a bulletproof glass case also reflects the reckoning of the Spaniards with their past as well as their perspectives on art. After returning from Madrid, you should respond as “Yes” to the question, “Did you see Guernica?” and please spare some time to at least visit the final leg of this golden triangle and see Guernica. If you continue along the road you came from after leaving the museum, you will reach Plaza
