29 eğitim education Believing in the power of imagination Hayal gücünün gücüne inanmak Yaradılışımız gereği hayal gücümüzle doğuyoruz. Küçücükken farklı düşünebiliyor ve enteresan fikirlere sahip olabiliyoruz. Fakat gerek yaşam şartlarımız gerekse büyürken edindiğimiz öğretilerimiz, çevremizin müdahalesi, belki de kendimizi çevreye uydurma isteği, sosyal uyum sağlamak zorunda hissetmek gibi değişik sebeplerle bizi farklı yapan düşüncelerimizi baskılayabiliyoruz. Biz büyüyoruz, büyürken de sahip olduğumuz tüm farklı fikirlerimizi, değişik düşünme, hayaller kurma, kurgulama ve tasarlama becerilerimizi büyük ölçüde geride bırakıyoruz. Neden? Belki de çevremizdekiler bize inansın istiyoruz. Daha gerçekçi şeyler düşünmek zorunda hissediyoruz belki de… Küçücük bir çocukken fark etmiyoruz ki; aslında her oluş, her yeni fikir; hayal kurarak başlar. Biz çocukken hayal gücümüzle dolu olan çıkınımız, yetişkinliğe yürürken değişmeye veya boşalmaya başlıyor diyebiliriz. Hâlbuki yetişkin olduğumuzda bir sorun çözmemiz gerektiğinde; etkili sorun çözme becerilerine sahip olmamız, yaratıcı ve farklı düşünmemiz, enteresan fikirler üreterek en işlevsel çözümü bulmamız bekleniyor. Mesleğimizi yaparken de yeni yöntemler üreterek farklılık yaratmamız bekleniyor. Kimsenin göremediği detayları görerek titizlikle işimize yaklaşmamız ve başarılı olmamız bekleniyor. Bunlar gerekiyor ama biz çocukken bu becerilere sahip olacak şekilde desteklendik mi? Ya da biz çocuklarımızı yetiştirirken bu becerilere sahip olmaları için onları destekliyor muyuz? Düşünce üretmeye, düşündürmeye destek veren ortamlar hazırlıyor muyuz? Tek tip düşündürmeye yönelik bir eğitim şekli yaratıcılık aşılayabilir mi? Çocuklarımızın hayal güçlerinin gelişmeye devam etmesi için en önemli nokta; çocuklarımıza inanmak ve güvenmek bence. Bize anlattığı tüm fikirlere değer verdiğimizi hissettirdiğimizde, yeni çözümler üretmesi için fırsatlar sunduğumuzda, yeni tasarımlar yapmaları için onları desteklediğimizde, her şeyden önemlisi yapabileceklerine inandığımızda yaratıcı düşünceler üretecek potansiyellerini desteklemiş oluruz. Çocuklarımıza güvendiğimizi hissettirirsek ve fikirleri üzerinde vazgeçmeden çalışmaları için yüreklendirirsek, düşünmenin ve üretmenin ne kadar önemli olduğunu anlamalarını sağlayabilirsek düşünce üretmeye elverişli ortamı hazırlamış oluruz. Çocuklarımız bir proje üzerinde çalışırken veya merak ettiği bir şeyi deneyimlerken onları mümkün olduğunca kısıtlamamak, o olmaz, bu yapılmaz, o çok zor, her yer dağıldı, şimdi hiç sırası değil dememeliyiz. Düşünecekler, üretecekler bu doğalarında var. Ama unutmayalım ki biz onlara inanırsak ve destek olursak çok daha fazla gelişecekler. Düşünen, sorgulayan ve üreten nesiller yetiştirmek ümidiyle… By nature, we are born with an imagination. We can think differently as a child and have interesting thoughts. However, we can sometimes suppress the thoughts that make us different due to the conditions of our lives or the intervention of our environment, or perhaps the desire to fit ourselves in a certain place or perhaps due to feelings related with the obligation for social adaptation. We grow up and while doing so we leave behind all our different ideas and skills for thinking differently, imagining, reconstructing and designing. Why? Perhaps we want the people around us to believe in us. Or maybe we feel the need to think more realistic thoughts… As a small child, we do not realize that actually every becoming, each idea; starts by imagining. Our sack filled with imagination as a child starts to change or drain away as we age. However, it is expected from us when we become adults to have effective problem solving skills, be creative and think differently to find the most interesting ideas and the most functional solutions. We are also expected to make a difference by developing net methods in our profession. Everyone wants us to see details that no one else has and expects us to be successful. These are required, but were we brought up to have all these skills? Or do we support our children to have these skills as they are growing up? Do we prepare environments that encourage thinking and making others think? Can a method of education based on a single way of thinking instill creativity in us? I think the most important point for the development of the imagination of our children is to believe in them and trust them. When we make them feel that we value all the ideas they share with us, provide new opportunities to them for finding solutions, support them to make new designs and most importantly when we believe that they can do it we will have supported their potential for creative thinking. We will have prepared an environment suited for putting forth new ideas if we are able to have them feel our trust and if we encourage them to keep on working without giving up on their ideas while ensuring that they understand the importance of thinking and producing. When our children are working on a project or experiencing something they are curious about, we should not limit them and say no you cannot do this or that or complain that everywhere has become a mess. They will think and produce, that’s in their nature. But we should not forget that they will evolve more if we believe in them and encourage them.
