Enerjisini elektrikten alan sanat

Yaratıcılığın sınırsızlığında bir fotoğraf sanatçısı Robert Buelteman. Elektroşok verdiği, sanatının özünü oluşturan doğal güzellikler onun teknikleriyle bir tür “elektroşov”a dönüşüyor. 80 bin volt elektrikle buluşturduğu bitkilerden hayret verici ve hayranlık uyandırıcı görüntüler elde ediyor.

O da birçok fotoğrafçı gibi bir doğa tutkunu. Onu farklı ve özel yapan sırrı, kendine has teknikler uyguladığı ve 10 yıl boyunca büyük bir titizlikle çalışarak elde ettiği fotoğraflarında gizli… Yaptığı şeyi “önünde meyve tabağı duran bir ressam” gibi düşünerek yaptığını söylüyor. Ancak malzeme olarak boya ve fırça yerine metal levhalar ve fiber optik kablolar kullanıyor.

Detaylarını “Yaşamın İşaretleri” isimli kitabında da anlattığı sanatında hayata bakış açısını yansıtırken, ortaya çıkan eserlerini görenlere, dünyanın keşfedilmesi gereken mucizelerini hatırlatmayı amaçlıyor.

İlk olarak bitki örnekleri topluyor Buelteman. Topladığı bitkileri neşter kullanarak, uzman bir cerrah gibi en şeffaf hallerine ulaşana kadar kesiyor. Daha sonra negatife yerleştirerek üzerlerini bir difüzyon camı ile kapatıyor. Öncelikle bir desteğe sabitlenen bu oluşumu, içinde sıvı silikon olan bir kaba sokuyor. Ardından 80 bin voltluk elektrik ile negatiflerin aydınlanmasını sağlıyor.

Karanlık odada yapılan işlemlerden sonra elde edilen görüntülerde, ışığı kırmaya yardımcı olan lensler kullanılmadığı için, normal fotoğrafa oranla çok daha doğal ve canlı renkler ortaya çıkıyor.

Fotoğraf filminin üzerinde, bitkinin etrafındaki elektronların etkisiyle yoğunlaşan gazın oluşturduğu harelerin hemen ardından film, fiber-optik bir kablodan gelen beyaz ışıkla boyanıyor. 10 yılda haftada 60 saat çalışarak 80 adet eser meydana getirmiş olması kimine sayısal olarak az gelse de bu sayı, kullanılan tekniği zorluğunu ve tek bir kare için harcanan emeği açıklıyor.

Bir röportajında, ilk fotoğraf makinesine arkadaşından borç alarak sahip olduğunu söyleyen Buelteman, bu tutkusuyla çıktığı fotoğraf gezileri sayesinde tanışmış. Vizörden baktığı doğanın bir mucize olduğuna ve bu mucizenin en ona yaraşır biçimde işlenip insanlara sunulması gerektiğine inanarak bu yola çıkmış.

Sanatın bağımsızlığına ve yaratıcılıktaki sınırsızlığa yürekten inanıyor oluşu ise hiçbir derneğe ya da birliğe üye olmayışını açıklıyor. 1939 yılında Semyon Kirlian tarafından tesadüfen keşfedilen “Kirlian” yöntemi, Buelteman’ın uyguladığı yöntemin ve ortaya çıkan şaheserlerin temelini oluşturuyor.

“Elektrografik fotoğrafçılık” olarak da bilinen bu teknik, yüksek voltajlı, düşük amperli elektrik alanına dayalı aygıtlarla nesnelerden yayılan ışıkları saptamak için kullanılıyor. Yaşayan her şeyin etrafını sarmalayan ancak gözle görülemeyen bir auranın varlığını kanıtlamayı amaçlayan bu çalışmanın 70’li yıllardan itibaren Rusya’daki hastanelerde bazı hastalıkları teşhis etmek için de kullanıldığı biliniyor. Buelteman bu yöntemden yola çıkarak geliştirdiği teknikleriyle, canlı bitkilerin yaprakları ve sapları içinde gizli kalan enerjiyi, ışığı, görünmeyen renklerini kısaca tüm gizemli yönlerini ortaya koyuyor.

Kimine göre doğanın huzurunu kaçıran kimine göre mucizeler yaratan dahi bir sanatçı Buelteman. Bitkilere, yapraklara, çiçeklere elektrik vererek onları öldüren, onlara bir tür işkence uygulayan bir zalim olduğunu düşünenler de var. Ama Buelteman’ı acımasızca yargılayan insanlar bile ortaya çıkardığı kareleri gördüğünde hayranlıklarını gizleyemiyor.

Buelteman konuyla ilgili her soruya cevap verirken özellikle altını çizerek belirttiği gibi, geliştirdiği yöntemlerle doğanın mucizelerini insanlara sunmayı kendine görev edinmiş. Bir sanatçının sınırlarını her zaman zorlaması gerektiğinin ve yaptığı işe, emek verdiği eserine kendinden bir şeyler katmadan istediği sonuca ulaşamayacağının ispatı olarak çalışmalarını sürdürüyor.

Electrically fueled art

A photographer in the infiniteness of creativity, Robert Buelteman. The natural beauties he electrocutes make up the core of his art and are transformed into an “electroshow” with his techniques. He gets awe inspiring images from the plants he gives 80 thousand volts.

He is a lover of nature like many other photographers. The secret that makes him different and unique lies in the images that he took after 10 years of meticulous toil… He says that he does what he does by thinking of it as “a painter with a fruit bowl up front”. However, he uses metal plates and fiber optic cables instead of paints and brushes. He aims to remind us of the miracles of the world that need to be discovered while reflecting his perspective of life in his art that he explained in the book entitled “Signs of Life”.

Buelteman first collects plant specimens. He uses a scalpel to cut the specimens he collected like an expert surgeon thus reaching their most transparent states. He then places them on a negative and covers them with a diffusion glass. This formation that is fixed by a support is then placed inside a cup full of liquid silicone. He then illuminates the negatives using 80 thousand volts of electricity. Since lenses that help to refract the light are not used on the images obtained following the procedures in the dark room, more natural and much livelier colors are obtained in comparison with normal photographs. Following the halos formed by the gas that is condensed on the photography film with the effect of the electrons around the plant, the film is painted by white light that comes from a fiber-optic cable.

Even though some consider it as a low number that he has produced 80 works of art by working for 60 hours per week for 10 years, he explains this with the difficulty of the technique and the time spent for one single shot. Buelteman stated in one of his interviews that he bought his first camera on money loaned from one of his friends as well as indicating the origin of this passion as the photo trips he went. He has started working on this method because he believes that the nature he sees from the visor is a miracle and because he believes that it should be presented to the people in the way it deserves. The fact that he is not a member of any association or union is explained by his sincere belief in the independence of art and infiniteness of creativity. The “Kirlian” method that was randomly discovered in 1939 by Semyon Kirlian lies at the heart of the method applied by Buelteman and the masterpieces he thus produces.

This technique that is also known as “electrographic photography” is used to detect the light emitted from high voltage, low ampere electrical field based instruments and objects. It is known that this method that aims to prove the existence of an invisible aura surrounding all living things has been used to diagnose some diseases in some Russian hospitals since the 70’s. Buelteman puts forth the hidden energy, light and the invisible colors or in short all the mysterious aspects of the leaves and stems of living plants via the method he has developed based on this technique.

For some, Buelteman is one who disrupts the peace of nature, whereas for others he is a genius artist. There are those who think that he is a cruel person who kills plants, leaves and flowers by applying electricity thus torturing them. But even those who judge Buelteman harshly cannot hide the awe they feel when they see the shots put forth by him. Buelteman answers all questions directed at him on this subject and he has taken it on him as a task to present the miracles of nature to people using the methods he developed. He continues working as proof that an artist should always push the boundaries and that he/she cannot reach the desired result without contributing something from their inner selves.
