Bursa’da yaklaşık olarak 3 bin
güvercin besleyicisi yaşıyor.
Özellikle Bursa’nın köklü
mahallelerinde bir mahalle
geleneği şeklinde güvercin
besleme alışkanlığı var. Kuşçu
dükkânlarında ya da kuş
pazarlarında bir araya gelen
güvercin severler ya saatlerce
güvercin ağırlıklı sohbetler
yapıyorlar ya da güvercinleri
uçurup hayranlıkla onları
izliyorlar. Hatta ev ararken
evlerin kaç oda kaç salon
olduğu kadar terasının olup
olmadığı da önem arz ediyor.
Zaten onlara neden güvercin
beslediklerini sorduğunuzda
hep aynı cevabı alıyorsunuz;
“Bu bir hastalık...” Onlarla
biraz vakit geçirme şansı
bulduğunuzda ise bu sevginin
ne kadar derin olduğunu
kolayca anlıyorsunuz.
Yemlerine, ilaçlarına,
bakımlarına, uçuş eğitimlerine
ne denli özen gösterdiklerini
öğrenince hayvan sevgisi
ile yoğrulmuş bu insanlara
hayran oluyorsunuz. Bursalı
güvercin severlerin bir de
gurur kaynağı var. Çünkü
artık nadir olarak bulunabilen
“Oynar” isimli güvercin,
kökeni çok eskilere dayanan
bir Bursa kuşu. Zaten Bursa
dışına çıktığınızda bu güvercin
“Oynar” ismiyle değil “Bursa
Kuşu” ismiyle anılıyor. Trakya
bölgesi ve Edirne civarında
ise “Kesme” adı ile bilinen
bu kuş dünyada ise “Bursa
There are about 3 thousand
pigeon breeders in Bursa. There
is a habit to breed pigeons as a
neighborhood tradition especially
in the historical districts of Bursa.
Pigeon lovers come together at
bird shops or bird markets and
talk for hours on end mostly
about pigeons while watching in
awe as they fly around. Indeed,
terraces are very as important
as the number of bedrooms
and living rooms while renting
a house. When you tell people
that you breed pigeons, their
response is always the same:
“This is a sickness...” But you
understand how deep this love
goes when you find a chance
to spend some time with them.
You admire these people full of
love for animals as you see how
attentive they are to the bird
fodder they use, to taking care
of the birds and their training to
fly. The pigeon lovers of Bursa
also have a source of pride.
Because the pigeon known as
“Roller” is a rare bird of Bursa
that goes way back in history.
Indeed, this bird is not known as
“Roller” outside of Bursa but as
“Bursa Bird”. It goes by the name
“Kesme” around the Thracian
region and Edirne, but is known
as “Bursa Roller”, “Bursa
Tümmler” or “Rouleur de Bursa”
in other parts of the world. Bursa
Roller Pigeon Breeding and
Sustenance Association and the
Veterinary Faculty Department
of Zootechnics and Genetics are
working actively to ensure that
this bird does not lose its unique
properties and does not become
extinct. They have registered the
Bursa Bird but they do not think
that it is enough.
