müzik tutkunu günün birinde,
50’li yıllarda tüm dünyayı
saran “rock and roll” müziğinin
kralıyla tanışıp, onunla birlikte
şarkı söyleyeceklerini belki
hayal bile edemezlerdi.
1962 yılında ilk profesyonel
kaydını yapan grup, bir yıl
sonra İngiltere’de “Please,
please me” isimli ilk resmi
albümünü çıkardı. Bu albüm
aynı zamanda İngiltere
45’lik listelerinde bir numara
olmuştu. “Liverpool Dörtlüsü”
zirveye doğru ilerliyor ve yavaş
yavaş tüm dünyaya yayılıyordu.
“I Want to Hold Your Hand”
45’liği ile Amerika’da
başlayan “Beatlesmania” ile
konserlerinde ayılıp bayılanlar,
kendilerini sahneye atanlar,
onları bir kez yakından
görmek için çığlıklar atanlar,
ağlayanlar her geçen gün
çoğalıyor; tüm gençler onlar
gibi giyiniyor, saçlarını onlar
gibi tarıyor, onları örnek alarak
gerçek bir “Beatle” olabilmek
için uğraşıyordu. Beatles’ın
“Muhteşem Dörtlü” olarak
anılmasının başlangıcı olan
“With The Beatles” albümleri
ilk “milyon” satan albümleriydi.
Zamanla bir markaya dönüşen
“Lennon/McCartney” imzalı
şarkılarıyla özgünlüğünü
kanıtlayan Beatles, 1964
yılından itibaren beyaz perdede
boy göstermeye başladı. İlk
filmleri aynı yıl yayınlanan ve 3.
albümlerinin de ismini taşıyan
“A hard day’s night” oldu. Aynı
yıl İngiltere’de yayınlanan “I
feel fine” isimli 45’liklerinde
ise gelecekteki müzisyenlere
ilham verecek büyük bir yenilik
vardı. John Lennon “arı sesine
benzer bir gürültü” olarak
tanımladığı gitar “feedback”i,
şarkının başında kullandı.
Plağı yayınlayan yapım şirketi
daha sonra “bu sesin teknik
bir arızadan kaynaklanması”
nedeniyle özür dilese de
aslında bu küçük ayrıntı
Beatles’ın ilk kez ve bilinçli
olarak yaptığı, yıllar sonra da
başka müzisyenler tarafından
defalarca yapılacak bir
uygulamaydı. 1964 yılı biterken
çıkardıkları “Beatles For Sale”
isimli albümdeki şarkılarda
eskisi gibi bir hareketliliğin
olmaması üzerine grubun
“durulma” döneminin başladığı

daima liste başıydı. Turne
rekorları kırıyor, gittikleri

1965 yılında, onların hayranı

arasındaki Kraliçe Elizabeth
tarafından Kraliyet Nişanı
ile ödüllendirildiler. Aynı yıl
filmleri ile birlikte “Help”
adındaki albümleri çıktı. Help
albümü aynı zamanda, “eğer
varsa” Beatles’i daha önce
hiç dinlememiş insanların
bile diline dolanan “herkesin
bildiği” şarkının bulunduğu
albümdü. Sadece günümüzde
yaklaşık 3000 versiyonunun

1965 yılında yayınlanan
diğer albümleri “Rubber
Soul” ise Beatles’in olgunluk
dönemi albümü olarak tarihe
geçen, sahip olduğu farklı
melodilerle dönüm noktası
olarak kabul edildi. Grup,
John Lennon’un bir röportajda
“İsa’dan daha popüleriz”
sözlerine büyük tepki gördüğü
1966 yılından itibaren halk
konserlerine çıkmama kararı

previous albums, so it was said
that the band entered a “growing”
phase.
Album after album, all their
songs were number 1. Their
tours literally broke records;
they were greeted by crazy
crowds everywhere they went.
In 1965, Queen Elizabeth, one
of their millions of fans, awarded
them the Order of the British
Empire. The same year their
movie and album “Help” met the
audiences. This was the album
with the songs that everyone
knew, even the people who have
not listened to the Beatles before,
if there were any left. Today, there
are 3000 versions of the song
“Yesterday” which remained at
the top of the world charts for
11 weeks… A trivia about the
song; the band members insisted
that this ‘too slow’ song by Paul
McCartney did not make the
album, they claimed it did not
reflect the structure of the band…
The 1965 “Rubber Soul” was a
milestone for the band with its
distinctive melodies and was
accepted as their maturity album.
The band stopped public
concerts after the controversial
statement in 1966 by Lennon
declaring “we are more popular
than Jesus”. Their album
“Revolver” during this period is
considered as a masterpiece,
an asset to the history of rock
music. This album, destroying
all the pre-existing concepts,
creating a new dimension for
modern music, was considered
as “one the best albums of all
time”. One year later, it was
followed by “Sgt. Pepper’s
Lonely Hearts Club Band”, a
cornerstone in music history.
This was also the first album to
ever have the lyrics on the cover.
The Beatles, who inspired a new
generation devoted to freedom,
who believe in the power of love,
were sometimes misinterpreted.
The notorious serial killer
Charles Manson, understanding
the album “The White” as a
declaration of the doom’s day,
accepted the song “healter
skelter” as his inspiration for the
massacre he committed.
In 1969, they made a soundtrack
album and appeared at the
end of the animated movie
“Yellow Submarine”. Later on,
they admitted they were at first
reluctant about the project but
ended up having fun. The title
song used various sounds and
since it was played in all the
anti-was protest, it became
the “hippie anthem”. The same
year, The Beatles gave an
unauthorized concert that ended
with police intervention, on
the rooftop of the Apple music
company. They used images of
the raid in the movie “Let it be”;
again, also the title of their final
album. In 1970, they announced
their official break-up with a press
release
After the break up, fans expected
them to get back together;
though hopeful rumors were
spread on the issue, band
members continued their musical
careers with respective solo
albums. Yoko Ono, Lennon’s wife,
with whom he declared to have
found himself, the woman who
altered his perception of life, was
portrayed as the reason behind
this unacceptable separation.
For a long time it was assumed
that “a legend was destroyed
because of a woman” and
nobody understood the problem
between the band members.
Despite sufficient explanation,
people did not want to believe
that they would not pick up from
where they left off. The same
arguments are still made by
the “remnants of the Beatles
years”.
The Fab Four, which started out
with John Lennon (shot in front
of his New York apartment by
a mentally deranged Beatles
fan in the 80s) and his friend
Paul McCartney and came to
be loved by the whole world in a
short period of time, did not just
change the dimensions of music
but also introduced the concept
of music group. None of the
groups that followed them had
the same splendor, but still they
were an encouragement to the
musicians that came after them.
Their music might be defined as
the music of freedom, for this
new movement gained a different
meaning with the music they
made. The fact that they remain
current even after 50 years
indicates that Beatlesmania lives
on…
