popüler olmasa da dünyanın
en hatrısayılır şalelerinden bir
tanesi...
Guarani (Güney Amerika
yerlileri) dilinde “büyük su”
anlamına gelen ve doğanın
insanoğluna en büyük
armağanı kabul edilen Iguazu;
Arjantin, Brezilya ve Paraguay
arasındaki sınırda yer alıyor.
Yine Güney Amerika yerlileri
tarafından anlatılan ve dilden
dile dolanan efsanesine
göre, insanlar bu eşi benzeri
olmayan doğal hazineyi, dev
bir yılanın öfkesine borçlu.
Köylüler, Iguazu Nehri’nde
yaşayan, adı Mboi olarak
anlatılan bu dev yılana her yıl
törenle genç bir kız kurban
edermiş. Yapılan bu törene

Think of water that seems
to flow into eternity. Imagine
seeing water everywhere you
turn. Though far away from our
country, Iguazu is one of the
wonders of the world. Not as
popular as Niagara Falls, but
significant enough...
Iguazu, meaning “grand water”
in Guarani (the Native American
language) Guarani, is accepted
as one the great gifts of nature
to humankind and is located at
the border between Argentina,
Brazil, and Paraguay. According
to the legend that has been told
by the South American Natives,
men owe this unique treasure to
the rage of a giant snake. The
legend has it that each year the
villagers would sacrifice a young
girl to Mboi, the giant snake,
with ceremonies. All the villagers
would join these ceremonies.
During one, a young man
named Taroba fell in love with
the beautiful girl, Naipi, who was
supposed to be sacrificed that
year. He kidnaps her to save her
and Mboi leans about this and
infuriated he breaks down the
rocks around the river, and thus
creating the falls.
