Here is a very rich concept: road.
It is a strong concept we use to
express ourselves with words
such as process, time, space,
possibility, traveler, travel, start,
destination, going, stopping,
staying, leaving, entering, right,
open, closed, difficult, rough,
narrow, wide, opened, set off.
Two more concepts come up
when we examine the concept
of road. The first is our starting
location. Where are we? Where
do we stand? Are we ready to hit
the road? Because one cannot
set off on a journey just like that.
We have to prepare first. We take
with us the things we will need
on the way. We do not set off
without a cloak in summer time
and without food in winter time.
Because there are difficulties
on the road, dangers as well as
strangers. It can be dangerous
but every journey is also an
adventure. Every traveler is
also an adventurer. Do you like
adventure?
We will hit the road, okay, but
where? Now we are faced with
the second concept: direction.
That is; the target. What winds
can guide the ships with no
route? It is not easy to orient
one’s self. First and foremost
you may need a map, a guide
and a compass. That is why it
is important that our maps are
open, our guides are experienced
and our compasses are working
properly. More important is our
direction or our target. Aren’t we
all captains of our own ships?
Roads are not always flat, asphalt
or calm. Obstacles, unevenness
and storms stop you. Are we
ready for all these? Are we ready
to pass over closed roads?
Sometimes one has to enter
roads that no one else has dared
to. That is why Oruç Arıoba says,
“Real walking is opening the
way.”
God says in the Qur’an, “My
earth is spacious”. Does this
mean that one has to hit the road
to find what they need and that
they have to seek whatever they
are looking for? Yes, the earth
is spacious and we can travel to
wherever we choose. But isn’t our
inner journey more important? If
life is a journey, isn’t our span of
life our own journey?
İşte size çok zengin bir
kavram: yol. Süreç, zaman,
mekan, imkan, yolcu,
yolculuk, başlangıç, varış,
gidiş, duruş, kalış, çıkış, giriş,
doğru, açık, kapalı, zorlu,
engebeli, dar, geniş, kesilmiş,
açılmış, düşülmüş, saçılmış
gibi eklerle hem gerçek hem
mecazi anlamlarla kendimizi,
halimizi ifade ettiğimiz güçlü
bir kavram. Yol kavramını
incelediğimizde, içinden iki
kavram daha çıkıyor.
Birincisi yola başladığımız yer.
Neredeyiz? Nerde duruyoruz?
Yola çıkmaya hazır mıyız?
Çünkü yola öyle ha deyince
çıkmayız. Önceden hazırlanırız.
Yolda ihtiyacımız olan şeyleri
yanımıza alırız. Yazın abasız
kışın katıksız yola çıkmayız.
Donanırız çünkü yolda zorluklar
vardır, tehlikeler vardır,
yabancılar vardır. Tehlikeli
olabilir ama aynı zamanda her
yolculuk bir serüvendir. Her
yolcu da biraz maceraperest.
Macerayı sever misiniz?
Yola çıkacağız tamam, ama
nereye? İşte burada ikinci
kavram önümüze çıkıyor:
yön. Yani hedef. Rotası belli
olmayan gemiye hangi rüzgar
yol verebilir? Yönümüzü
tayin etmek her zaman
öyle kolay olmuyor. Bunun
için her şeyden önce bir
haritaya, sonra bir rehbere,
bir pusulaya ihtiyacımız
olabilir. Haritalarımızın açık,
rehberimizin tecrübeli,
pusulamızın da şaşmaması
bu yüzden çok önemli. Daha
da önemlisi yön yada hedef
seçimimiz. Hepimiz gemisini
yürüten kaptan değil miyiz?
Yollar her zaman düz, asfalt
ya da sakin olmuyor. Engeller,
engebeler, fırtınalar yolumuzu
kesiyor. Bütün bunlar için yeteri
kadar donanımlı mıyız?
Bazen yollar kapalı oluyor,
onları açmak için güçlü
müyüz? Bazen de hiç kimsenin
gitmediği, gitmeye cesaret
edemediği yollardan gitmek
gerekiyor. İşte bunun için Oruç
Arıoba, “Gerçek yürüme yol
açmadır” diyor.
Kur’an da Tanrı “Benim arzım
geniştir” ifadesini kullanıyor.
Acaba bu, insanın ihtiyaçları
için yollara düşmesini, o her
ne ise bulması için araması
gerektiğini mi ifade ediyor?
Evet, dünya büyük, seçtiğimiz
her yere yolculuk yapabiliriz.
Ama asıl önemli olan içsel
yolculuğumuz değil mi? Hayat
bir yolsa, ömrümüz bizim
hayattaki yolculuğumuz değil
mi?
Nereye gidiyorsunuz?
