Foça’ya gitmeden önce.
Deniz kokusunu günün her
anı ciğerlerine çeken, gözleri
denize doymuş ve dahası her
şeyini denize borçlu, dingin,
güler yüzlü Egelilerle dolu
Foça. Hani kendi halinde derler
ya, öyle bir yer işte burası.
Kimi sevgilisi ile el ele sahilde
yürüyor. Kimi yaşlılar sahil
kıyısında günbatımı izliyor, kitap
okuyor. Köpeğini gezdirenler,
kedilerle oynayan çocuklar,
ağlarını onaran balıkçılar,
saksılar dolusu çiçekler,
kısacası her şey dinlenmenin
ne demek olduğuna işaret
eder gibi... Bakımlı ve tüm koy
boyunca, koya paralel olarak
yapılmış olan iskele; gündüz bir
plaj, akşamları ise bir yürüyüş
alanı oluyor. Geceleri mehtabı
izlemek için ise biçilmiş kaftan.
Ayın ve güneşin pırıltıları ile
koyun iki yakasında, gece ve
gündüz size ışık oyunları sunan
deniz ise herkesin en iyi dostu.
Şehri yukarıdan gören tüm
tepeler, efil efil esen rüzgarın
eşliğinde buram buram Ege
kokuyor. Rakı balık ikilisinin
birbirine en çok yakıştığı bu
yerde, ağlar arasında deniz
ürünlerini ve mezelerini tatma
keyfi ise dünyalara değer.
Foça’da denize gitmek için
telaş etmenize gerek yok.

The sea, a step ahead

Before visiting Foca (Phokaia),
you might not have fantasized
such a place so cuddled up
together in peace and in touch
with the sea. Foca is full of
cheerful, serene Aegean people
who inhale the smell of the sea
into their lungs every moment of
the day, and are satisfied with
the vision of the sea and so owe
everything to it. It is such a placid
place as one may call. Couples
walk hand in hand along the
seashore. Some elders watch
the sunset and read books by
the coast. People walking their
dogs, children playing with cats,
fishermen fixing their fishing
nets, pots full of flowers, instantly
everything seems to point out
the meaning of relaxation… Built
parallel to and along the bay, the
well-preserved harbor is used as
a beach during the daytime and
a walking path in the evening. It
is a perfect place to watch the full
moon at nights. As for the sea,
which offers plays of light by the
gleam of the sun and the moon
day and night on both sides of the
bay, is the best friend to all. All the
hills, overlooking the city, smell
Aegean abundantly accompanied
with the gently blowing wind.
In this place, where Rakı and
fish go best together, to taste
the appetizers and the seafood
caught in the fishing nets is worth
the whole world. You do not need
to rush to go to the beach in Foca.
In this fish and algae smelling
town, you can swim anytime you
wish, just take a step into the
water from any place.
According to the legend, there
is a mysterious “Blackstone” in
Foca. Those, who step on this
stone - nobody knows where it
is, are doomed to come back to
Foca again. People who happen
to pass by Foca, upon hearing
this story, start wandering the
streets… Who knows, smelling
