başladı. Güzeller güzeli Yunan
tanrıçaları o elmayı almak
için birbirleriyle yarıştılar.
Çünkü elmanın üzerinde “en
güzele” yazıyordu ve her biri
“en güzel”in kendi olduğuna,
elmanın kendisine verilmesi
gerektiğine inanıyordu. Hera,
Athena ve Afrodit arasındaki
başlayan bu rekabet zaman
içinde kadınların, uğruna
kanlar dökülen güzelliklerini
tescil ettirmek adına
başlattıkları tatlı bir rekabete
dönüştü. İda Dağı’nın çobanı,
Afrodit’in vaadine kanıp
altın elmayı ona vermeseydi
belki de bütün bunlar hiç
yaşanmayacak ve kadınlar
hiçbir zaman güzelliklerinin
ödüllendirilmesini
istemeyeceklerdi. Dünya
çapında dev organizasyonlar
yapılmayacak; ilk kez 1929
yılında Feriha Tevfik ile
başlayan “Türkiye Güzeli”
kavramı hiç duyulmayacaktı.
Bugüne dek her yıl ilgiyle
izlenen ve takip edilen
yarışmalar hiç olmayacaktı.
1932 yılında, kraliçe tacını
bir önceki yılın güzelinden
devralan Keriman Halis, aynı
yıl içinde “Dünya Güzellik
Kraliçesi” unvanını hiç
kazanmamış, ülkesine böyle
bir gururu hiç yaşatmamış
olacaktı.
Yüzyıllardır türlü versiyonlarla
anlatılan efsaneye göre, antik
çağlardan günümüze kadar
ulaşan, filmlere, kitaplara konu
olan Truva Savaşı’nın nedeni
güzellik… Antik çağlardan
beri kadınların güzelliklerini
taçlandırmak, en güzel
seçilebilmek için düzenlenen;
büyük tartışmalara sebep
olarak, kimine göre kadını
metalaştıran kimine göre
onu yücelten yarışmalar…
Afrodit, efsanedeki altın elmayı
almak için Paris’e dünyanın
en güzel kadınını sunmuş, bu
vaade kapılan Paris, kitaplara,
filmlere konu olan Truva
Savaşı’na sebep olmuştu.
Bilinen ilk güzellik yarışmasının
yapıldığı İda Dağı, bugün Kaz
Dağları olarak bilinen bölgeydi.
It all started with a golden apple.
The beautiful Greek goddesses
competed with one another to get
that apple. Because the words,
“to the most beautiful one” were
written on it and each of them
believed they deserved the apple
because they were the fairest of
them all. This competition that
started among Hera, Athena
and Aphrodite transformed into
a struggle to have their beauties
registered and they even shed
blood for this. Maybe none of
these would have happened if
the shepherd of Mount Ida had
not given the golden apple to
Aphrodite when he was fooled
by her into doing so and women
would never have wanted any
prize for their beauty. Immense
organizations would not have been
arranged worldwide; the concept
of “Miss Turkey” that started in
1929 with Feriha Tevfik would
have never been heard. Beauty
pageants would not have been
organized until today and so they
would not have received wide
attention worldwide. Keriman Halis
would never have won the “Miss
World” title after taking over the
crown from the previous winner
in 1932 and thus she would never
have made her country so proud.
According to the legend that
has been told in many different
versions over centuries; beauty
is the underlying reason of the
War of Troy which has been
the subject of many books and
movies … Beauty pageants
have been organized to crown
the beauties of women since
antiquity; they are considered by
some as commoditizing women
in some sense whereas for
others they elevate women but
no matter what one thinks, they
have caused many disputes over
time… Aphrodite offered the most
beautiful woman in the world to
Paris to be able to get that golden
apple and Paris caused the War
of Troy to start when he accepted
this offer. The first known beauty
pageant took place in Mount Ida
which today is known as the Kaz
Mountains. Again, legend has it
that it was up to Zeus to decide
on who was the most beautiful
but even the god of gods Zeus
could not dare to take sides
among women and thus assigned
this task to a shepherd. The first
beauty pageant organization
followed this legend dating back
to the era before Christ. The
first organization in September
1888 in Belgium was known as
“Concours de Baute”. The winner
of this contest was the 18 year
