herhangi bir yer aramıyor;
en lezzetli yemekleri
yiyebilecekleri, en güzel
manzaralı en lüks odalarda
kalabilecekleri ve hatta en çok
eğlenecekleri oteller arasından
seçim yapmaları gerekiyordu.

Yolculuklar git gide artıyor,
insanlar toplu taşımalar
yerine kendi araçlarını
kullanmaya başlıyordu. Bu
kez karayollarına yakın olan
konaklama yerleri ilgi görmeye
başladı. İlk kez Amerikalılar
tarafından uygulanan ve
adına “motel” denilen yapılar
kullanıma açıldı. Birçok kült
filme ilham veren, korku filmi
sektörünün gelişmesinde
de hatırı sayılır bir yeri olan
ve bu filmlerden kesitler
hatırlatan moteller aslında
bölge yerlilerinin, çiftçilerin
turist kampı adı altında
gelip geçenlere kiraladıkları
küçük evlerdi. Bu binalar
benimsenip kullanımı arttıkça
ortada duran bir avluyu
çevreleyen küçük evler de
arttı ve en çok kullanılan
konaklama türlerinden biri
haline geldi. 1970’lere kadar
çokça kullanılan moteller artık
yerini daha konforlu, daha
kişiye özel ve daha modern
yapılara bırakmaya başladı.
Amaç yine aynıydı; yolculuk
edenlere hizmet. Ancak içerik
sürekli şekil değiştiriyordu.

up places of accommodation
called “motels”. Motels that gave
inspiration to many cult movies,
that led to the development of
the horror movie industry and
that reminded people of the
scenes in such movies were
actually small houses which
the locals and farmers rented
to foreigners who were passing
by. As these buildings started
to be used more and more, the
number of houses surrounding
a courtyard also increased and
thus becoming one of the most
favorite forms of accommodation.
Motels that were used frequently
until the 1970’s were replaced
by more comfortable and private
modern structures. The objective
was the same; serving travelers.
However the content kept on
changing. Some were trying to
attract customers with limited
means such as meals at certain
hours, whereas others added a
rich menu of foods and drinks
with entertainment programs
as well as comfortable rooms
with great sceneries. All kinds of
hotels that served 24/7 became
the favorites of the “tourism”
sector that had become the
major source of income of the
whole country. The development
of hotel management that had
started with the advance of
humans was now continuing at
a pace that was difficult to keep
track of. Just like all inventions,
hotel management had been
devised as a result of the needs
of humans and new ideas came
up as these needs increased and
transformed. Time was flowing
rapidly and people as well as
hotels were competing to keep
pace with changing times. Things
had transformed unimaginably
and hotel management had
taken its place right in the heart
of modern times.
