gezek kültürü; kentine, kentinin
geleneklerine, kültürüne,
tarihine ve anılarına saygı duyup
sahiplenen, onları yarınlara
taşımaya kararlı Bursalılar
sayesinde uzun yıllar daha nefes
almaya devam edeceği belli.
“Gezeğimiz burada sonuna erdi.
Kalmadı kimsenin içinde derdi.
Gecemiz hayırlı olsun bayanlar
baylar. Gezeğimizden sizlere
selamlar…”

traditional importance since the
time of the Seljuqs is still one of
the best means of sharing joy
and sorrow. It is rumored that the
roots of gezek culture date back
to the Turks in Central Asia, to
the Shamans, to the communion
dances of the Indian tribes in
Africa and America as well as
to their songs. It is believed that
the soul is cleansed of all evil
and pain thus reaching a state
of peace thanks to the power
of music that is performed
almost as a religious ritual as
well as the power of communion
and of being together. Thus,
the existence of gezek culture
with roots in Ancient Anatolian
beliefs has a greater importance
than its definition of “musical
entertainment with treats”.
Even though it could not come
to the forefront during the
difficult days of the first years
of the Republic, the gezek
culture has reemerged thanks
to those who laid claim to it.
It changed somewhat, got
mixed with different identities
and gained on new meanings
but still it managed to reach
our day without losing its
trademark values. We can be
sure that the gezek culture of
Bursa will continue to breathe
for many years to come thanks
to the locals of Bursa who are
determined to hold onto the
traditions, culture and history of
their city.
“Our gezek has thus ended. With
no trouble left in the hearts. Let
our night be beneficial ladies and
gentlemen. Compliments from
our gezek to all of you at once…”
