tales as well as the fables
we enjoyed when we were
growing up do not continue
on their way without stopping
here and resting for a few days
every year. Bursa responds
to their interest and trust. The
city protects them during the
migration period when a sweet
rush is ongoing. Sick birds are
treated at the Karacabey Celal
Acar Rehabilitation Center, their
nests are protected by the locals
and more care is given to the
environment. Events, concerts
and festivals are arranged
every year for their coming. Bird
observation towers are always
crowded as well as the routes of
storks which we observe at all
times until they finish their break
and fly off once again. Of course
all these efforts and preparations
are to ensure that we do not
leave them alone during this
migration adventure and that they
spend this period in the safest
and most peaceful manner…
“Uluabat” of the Grand City
Bursa that connects with two
migratory paths over Istanbul,
Samsun, Çanakkale and Hatay
is an irreplaceable rest area for
bird species that require different
natural structures with its fertile
lands, wetlands, prairies, wide
and dense forests and important
lakes. Thousands of birds find
opportunity for shelter every year
in the natural areas, lakes and
rivers that are located within the
city limits of Bursa. Thus, Bursa
is a real paradise both for birds
and bird observers. The best
spot for observing their natural
habitat, daily lives and migration
preparations is the Uluabat Lake
which is one of the medium sized
lakes of Turkey that was taken
under protection in 1998 by the
Ramsar Agreement… Uluabat
Lake is also important due to
its proximity to the Marmara
Sea and other Marmara lakes
as well as Manyas Lake which
is another Ramsar area. 21
different fish species live in the
lake with a length of 24 km and
width of 10 km. In addition, it is
quite important for thousands of
birds that come from the north
during winter. Coot, pochard,
tufdet ducks, great crested grebe
and little grebe can be observed
in open waters whereas cattle
egret, great white heron and grey
heron, buckwheat and Caspian
