Uluabat Gölü’nün çevresinde
yaşayanlarla kurdukları
dostluklardan anlaşılıyor.
Bursa’yı mesken tutan leylekler,
Uluabat Gölü civarında
dinlenmek için geldiklerinde
şehir içi turu atmayı da ihmal
etmiyorlar. Onları rahatça
görebileceğimiz yerlerden geçip
sanki Bursalıları selamlıyor belki
de kendilerine gösterilen bu
ilgiye teşekkür ediyorlar. Düzenli
olarak gelip dinlendikleri,
ihtiyaçlarını karşılayıp misafir
edildikleri bu kentten ayrılmadan
önce Bursa Hayvanat
Bahçesi’ne uğrayıp dostlarını
ziyaret ediyorlar. Çünkü onların
gelişleri şerefine düzenlenen
eğlencelerin, yapılan hazırlıkların
ve Türkiye’deki ilk leylek
festivalinin başkahramanları
olduklarının farkındalar.
Bursa’da festival zamanı
Uluabat Gölü’nün kıyısında, bir
yarımadanın üzerinde kurulan
ve “Leylek Köyü” olarak anılan
Karacabey’in Eskikarağaç
Mahallesi’nde her yıl aynı
dönemde hareket başlıyor.
Karacabey Belediyesi’nin
girişimleri ile 2011’de Avrupa
Leylek Köyü Ağı’na dahil edilen
Eskikaraağaç’ta 12 yıldır bu
tatlı telaş yaşanıyor. Afrika
kıtasından göç edip gelen
leyleklerden bazıları yuvalarına
yeni katılan yavrularını büyütmek
için bazıları ise göç yollarında
hedeflerine ulaşmadan önce
burada durup mola veriyorlar.
Bir önceki yıl yuva kurdukları
yere yerleşiyor, onları görmek
için gelen ziyaretçilerini
selamlayıp, kendileri için
düzenlenen festivalin
konuklarına unutulmaz anlar
hediye ediyorlar.
Bu yıl haziran ayının ilk
günlerinde düzenlenen festival
and they start fluttering their
wings and dancing when they get
together with their spouses. They
can eat snail and mussel shells
more easily thanks to the thin
gap between their beaks when
they close them. Storks migrate
from their reproduction areas
in Europe towards Africa every
year in August and September.
They spend the winters in the
savannas around the region
from Kenya and Uganda down
to South Africa. Some fly west
and reach Nigeria. They return
back to the north in the spring.
They reach Europe in flocks
after a journey of 50 days.
This corresponds to around
March and April. The flocks that
pass through Central Europe
sometimes cannot resist the
strong winds thus reaching
different winter quarters as they
get off their routes. However,
adults succeed in reaching their
targets without any deflection
off of their routes. Even though
the fact that they migrate is an
indication of their free spirit,
they are actually very loyal. This
loyalty can be understood from
the friendships they establish
with the locals around the
Uluabat Lake. Storks that dwell
in Bursa also fly around the city
when they come to rest around
the Uluabat Lake. They fly around
places where we can see them
clearly greeting the locals of
Bursa as if thanking for their
interest. They also visit their
friends in the Bursa Zoo prior
to leaving the city they come
regularly to rest. Because they
are aware of the entertainments
organized in their honor, the
preparations made and the fact
that they are the heroes of the
first stork festival organized in
Turkey.

Eskikaraağaç Neighborhood of
Karacabey known also as the
“Stork Village” that is located
on a peninsula near the shores
of the Uluabat Lake starts to
become active during the same
