aşabilen kediler, gökyüzünde
attıkları naralarla özgürlüğün
tadını çıkartan martılar veya
zekice hareketleri ve biraz
kulak tırmalayan sesleri ile
dikkatimizi çeken kargalar
gibi... Kimisine kırsal yaşamda
rastlarız; sabahları üüüü üüürü
üüüü diye ötmesi nedeniyle
başı en çok derde giren hayvan
horozlar, meleme sesleri
yüzünden kıyamadığımız
kuzular, koyunlar ve keçiler,
ahırların vazgeçilmez konukları
olan öküzler, inekler ve atlar,
gözleri ile meşhur olsa da en
bilinen hayvan nidalarından
birisine(ai) sahip olan eşekler,
seyahat özlemimizin simgesi
leylekler, sesleri ile avcıların
hedefine düşen ördekler,
yılbaşı denince hemen
aklımıza gelen hindiler, tüyleri
kadar güzel sesleri olmayan
tavus kuşları, sesleri ile en
çok anılan bir diğer hayvan
kurbağalar veya bir sese
benzetildiğinde iltifat sayılan
bülbüller... Böcek seslerinden
pek hoşlanmasak da onlar da
hayatımıza etki eder; cır cır
böcekleri, vızzz sesini doğa
sesleri arasında meşhur kılan
arılar veya bizi uyutmayan
sinek ve sivrisinekler... Kimi
hayvanlar da vahşi doğada
veya hayvanat bahçelerinden
bize seslenirler; ulumalarıyla
meşhur kurtlar, tıslamalarıyla
tırstığımız yılanlar, doğadaki
en yüksek canlı seslerinden
bir tanesini çıkarabilen filler,
kükremesiyle yeri göğü
inleten ve bunun sonucunda
ormanlar kralı yaptığımız
aslanlar, çığlık çığlığa koşturan
maymunlar, sesini yakından
duymak istemeyeceğiniz ayılar,
seslerinin duyulmasının kötüye
işaret olduğu düşünülen
baykuşlar, taklit edilmesi en
zor seslerden bir tanesini
çıkartan domuzlar, çığlık
kelimesinin hakkını en iyi veren
canlılardan birisi olan yarasalar
ya da sualtından bize seslenen
yunuslar, balinalar...
Ses aslında maddi bir süreç.
Cisimlerin titreşiminden
meydana geliyor. Fiziksel fakat
sıvı, katı ve gaz cisimlerin
oluşturduğu titreşimlerden
meydana geliyor. Ses
olabilmesi için, bu titreşimlerin
saniyede 20’den 20.000’e

from the wild or the zoos; howling
wolves, hissing snakes that
scare you, elephants with one
of the loudest sounds in nature,
lions who make the earth and
sky tremble with their roar, thus,
earning the name king of the
jungle, monkeys screaming and
running around, bears whom you
would not want to hear up close,
hoot of the owl-a bad omen in
Turkish culture, pigs with a grunt
almost impossible to imitate, bats
who give the word scream its
worth or dolphins calling us from
under the sea…
Sound is a material process.
Realized by the vibrations of
matter. Physical but liquid, solid,
and gas matter. For sound to
be generated, these vibrations
have to be at a frequency from
20 to 20,000 per second. Sound
vibrations, when they hit the
air, create vibrations scattering
around like the ripple effect of
stone thrown into water. Thus,
sound spreads in the form of
sound waves. These waves arrive
our ears, creating the same
vibrations in the eardrum which
make hearing possible.
Street vendors also add sound to
our lives; selling simit or buying
your old stuff in exchange for
plastic cups or clothes pins,
travelling grocery stores shouting
“potatoes, tomatoes, onion”…
Sometimes we hear unnerving
and distracting sounds; heels,
coins, chalk, creaking of a chair,
alarm sounds, horns, brakes,
engines or ambulance sounds in
traffic, doors squeaking, drums
banging, doorbells, actual bells,
TV static are good examples.
The busy tone you hear on the
phone, the click of a camera,
sounds of an F1 car, the tapping
of typewriter or to be more
contemporary the keyboard, are
