çıkan yoldan, dileyenler
diğer yamaçtaki parktan
yola koyulsunlar. Yolun sonu
tepedeki kale ve en tepesine
kondurulmuş olan Szabadsag
Szobor yani Özgürlük Anıtı.
Biraz zahmet gerektiren bir
tırmanış olsa da tepedeki
güzelliği görmeye değer.
Elinde palmiye yaprağı
tutan kadın figürlü Özgürlük
Heykeli’nin yüksekliği 26 metre
ve yapım yılı 1947. Sovyetler’in,
Macaristan’ı 2.Dünya
Savaşı’nda kurtarması(!)
anısına yapılmış olsa da
komünist dönemin bitişiyle
varlığı, hayatını Macaristan’ın
bağımsızlığı, özgürlüğü ve
refahı için feda edenlerin
anısına atfedilmiş. Gellert
Tepesi’nin hem gündüz hem
gece manzarası çok güzel.
Aslında şehrin her noktası
için aynı şeyi söylemek
mümkün. Macarlar şehir
aydınlatması işini çözmüşler.
Bu yüzden gündüz turlarında
gezip gördüğünüz yerlerden
ikinci bir gece turu yapmak
şart Budapeşte’de. Gellert
Tepesi’nin Buda Kalesi’ne
bakmayan diğer yamacından
inişe geçenler buradaki parkta
değişik yükseklikteki küçük
seyir teraslarını teker teker
ziyaret edip soluklanarak
Tuna kıyısına doğru irtifa
kaybederek ulaşabilirler. Bu
yamaçta kayaya oyulmuş
the travelers exhausted from
walking around the market and
shopping, I strongly recommend
the restaurant-bar called
“For Sale” across the street.
The ceiling and the walls are
decorated with business cards
collected over many years, the
ground is filled with peanut shells
which are also served free and
its Goulash soup, a Hungarian
classic, is famous. You are at
the right address for your first
goulash experience. Probably
some will taste too hot some too
spicy and you will have tried it at
least 3-4 times. You need start
somewhere.
The next stop is the most popular
and somewhat touristy street
Vaci Utca. For the museum
enthusiasts, I would like to
mention that the Hungarian
National Museum (Magyar
Nemzeti Múzeum) is very close.
The period starting from the
prehistoric age till the recent
is exhibited with generous and
well-presented collection. The
piano used by Beethoven and
Ferenc Liszt is an essential
part of the largest museum in
Hungary. Deliberately repeating
my favorite cliché, I will say Vaci
Utca, starting from the Central
Market Hall ending with the
famous Gerbeaud Café, looks
like the Istiklal Street in Istanbul.
Restaurants, cafés, shopping
centers, souvenir shops,
bookstores and other shops is a
meeting spot both for the locals
and the tourists. The Gerbeaud
Café is open since 1858 on the
north corner of the Vörösmart
Square and is one of the oldest
in Europe. Do not leave without
seeing the interior design. The
crystal chandeliers and the
ceiling stucco are remarkable. If
you can find a place sit, have the
Esterhazy cake with coffee. The
street performers will accompany
your coffee. Savor it.
Food&Drinks and Shopping
For starters, do not expect too
much. While the Hungarian
cuisine is varied, it is actually a
bit greasy and heavy. Mainly,
goulash, fish soup, and
Borjûpaprikâs, meat dishes
are the stars of their kitchen.
All around you will see “Török
etterem” (Turkish Restaurants).
Likewise, döner and wrap places
will make feel at home. Setting
döner aside, moving on with
special suggestions; you will
taste very nice cocktails in Café
de Paris. There is the New York
Café, as famous as the city
itself. However, what I cannot
forget about Budapest is the
“Kürtoskalacs” desert which you
will come across at the street
vendors, in the parks etc. with its
intoxicating cinnamon smell. It is
a type of yeast dough rolled on
a strip and cooked on charcoal
but the taste is phenomenal.
Raid it wherever you see it, try a
flavor that suits your taste, you
will not regret it. Talking about
local flavors, you must not skip
