Mesleki kariyerine zirveden
başladı ve hızlı bir giriş yaptı
Lupita Nyong’o… Genç
yaşında elde ettiği bu başarıya
rağmen mütevazılığından
hiçbir şey kaybetmedi. Ünlü
markalar peşine düştü,
dünya çapında dergiler,
sahip olduğu “En İyi Yardımcı
Kadın Oyuncu” unvanına
“stil ikonu”, “yılın kadını”
unvanlarını da ekledi. O ise
küçük yaşlarda kurmaya
başladığı oyuncu olma hayalini
gerçekleştirmenin mutluluğunu
yaşarken, gördüğü ilginin hak
ettiğinden fazlası olmaması
gerektiğini söyleyecek kadar
alçakgönüllü olmayı tercih etti.
Gerçek bir hayat hikâyesinin
anlatıldığı ve birçok ödüle
layık görülen “12 Yıllık Esaret”
filminin Patsey’i olarak tanıdık
onu… Filmin yardımcı kadın
oyuncusuydu ama başrollere
taş çıkartacak bir performansla
hayat verdi çilekeş köleye…
Yalnızca 15 dakikalık bir
performansla unutulmayacak
sahnelere imza attı ve Oscar
Ödülü’nün sahibi oldu. Bir
gün başarılı bir oyuncu olmayı
hep istemişti ama oynadığı
ilk filmde bu kadar büyük bir
başarıya ulaşacağını hayal bile
etmemişti. Aldığı bu ödül onun
için “imkânsız” kavramının
hayatından sonsuza dek
silinmesi anlamına da
geliyordu.
1983 yılında Mexico City’de
doğan ama kendini Kenyalı
olarak kabul eden Nyong’o,
babasının Kenya’da Sağlık
Bakanı olarak görev alması
nedeniyle bir yaşındayken
ülkesine döndü. 6 çocuklu
kalabalık bir evde, kendi
deyimiyle “eğlenceli” geçen
çocukluk döneminde başladı
hayal kurmaya. Kurduğu
tüm hayallerin zaman içinde
plâna dönüşeceğine ve
yeterince istediği her şeyi
elde edebilmek, en imkânsız
görünene bile ulaşmak için
mutlaka bir yol bulacağına
inandı. Kimine göre bu güçlü

Actress” title. Whereas she
preferred to be as modest as
to say that the interest directed
towards her should not be more
than she deserves while savoring
the happiness of making one of
her childhood dreams come true.
We got to know her as Patsey
from the movie “12 Years a Slave”
based on a true story which won
many awards… She was the
supporting actress of the movie
but she gave life to the suffering
slave with a performance
surpassing many leading roles…
She starred in unforgettable
scenes with a performance of
just 15 minutes and won the
Oscar. She had always wanted to
be a successful actress, but had
not dreamed of attaining such a
huge success in the first movie
she starred in. This award meant
the word “impossible” faded
forever.
Nyong’o sees herself as a
Kenyan despite the fact that
she was born in Mexico City in
1983 and she returned to her
country when she was one year
old due to the fact that her father
became the Minister of Health
in Kenya. She started dreaming
during her “joyful” childhood in a
crowded house with 6 kids. She
always believed that her dreams
would turn into plans over time
and that she would find a way to
reach her goals no matter how
impossible they may seem. For
