amblemli binanın teras
katına davet etmek isterim.
Yükseklerden Berlin’in gece
manzarası eşliğinde güzel
vakit geçirmek için iyi bir
alternatif olabilir buradaki
mekanlar. Biri tam da
muhtemelen size de fazlasıyla
hitap edecek olan, 80’ler
ağırlıklı müzikleriyle eğlencenin
dozunun hiç düşmediği bir
mekan. Komşusu ise biraz
kalburüstü ve kıyafet koduna
uymazsanız kapıdan dönmeniz
olası bir gece kulübü.
Tercihinize göre bir kılığa
bürünmek akıllıca olabilir.
Bu mekan için mümkün
olduğunca “cool” ve şık
görünmek önemli sanırım. Bu

Friedrichstrasse durağında

Fernsehturm meaning “the
television tower” is very close to
the Alexanderplatz square. The
German Democratic Republic
administration wanted to turn
the tower which was built during
1965-1969 into a symbol of Berlin
– of course in addition to spying
on the West. And it seems that
they have succeeded. The tower
is the tallest structure in Germany
with a height of 368 meters.
Fortunately there is an elevator.
The two elevators inside the body
of the tower take you up to the
sphere at the top in 40 seconds.
I do not suggest taking the stairs.
There is an area for visitors and
a revolving restaurant inside the
sphere. The visitor area is about
204 meters high and the range
of visibility here is as high as 42
kilometers on clear days. I think
I did not mention this: the price
for going up to the TV tower is
12,5 Euros. You can do this until
midnight every day, which is
actually not a bad idea.
Alexanderplatz; or as the locals
say “Alex” is the most popular
and central location in the Mitte
region. It is a meeting point just
like Kızılay in Ankara or Heykel
in Bursa. You will most likely
pass by this location whether
you want it or not. Here you can
find street vendors where you
can taste Currywurst of Berlin as
well as various shops. Alexa Mall
takes its name from the square
and it might attract the attention
of shopping enthusiasts. It is
quite nice even though it looks
a little bit outdated and idle.
Hackescher Markt is located to
the left, behind the TV tower, past
the cathedral. It might attract
your attention with shopping
and eating spots as well as the
many coffee houses overlooking
the square. It is preferred by
energetic young people. A
perfect spot for resting for a while
before wandering further into
East Berlin.
Our next stop is Prenzlauerberg.
But before that, there is a
special spot we should see in
this direction at Rosenthaler
Str. 39: Blindenwerkstatt Otto
Weidt Museum. Even though not
as famous as Schindler, Otto
Weidt is another German citizen
who stood against the Jewish
Genocide during Nazi Germany.
A real hero who was able to save
the blind and the deaf Jews he
employed in his workshop. As
you can imagine, this workshop
is the museum. The passageway
is located in a striking location
with its bohemian atmosphere,
underground coffeehouses,
LP, CD and book stores as well
as the graffiti on the walls. Do
not wait to stumble upon this
place by chance and jot it down
in your list of things to do. The
Prenzlauberg region, known
shortly as Prenzl’berg, is among
the most colorful and lively spots
in Berlin along with Kreuzberg,
Mitte and Friedrichshain. It is the
preference of the intellectual and
alternative people of the city and
is home to many independent
art organizations, different
second hand stores, the cozy
modern dance center Dock 11,
