altında olacak. Berlin’in silueti
çok güzel olduğundan değil
ama, bir şehre gitmişken
illa ki panoramik manzara
peşinde olduğumuzdan bunu
da “yapılacaklar listesi”ne
ekleyelim. Şehirlere tepeden
bakmak, katedrallerin tepesine
yerleştirilen heykelleri yakından
da incelemek iyidir.
Gelelim Müzeler Adası’na
yani Museumsinsel’e, bir
diğer deyişle Spree Nehri’nin
üzerinde bulunan adanın
kuzeyinde 1 kilometrekarelik
alana sahip, 1999’dan bu
yana UNESCO’nun Dünya
Mirasları Listesi’nde yer alan

nice silhouette, but since we are
on the lookout for any panoramic
views during our trips, it would
be wise to add this to our “to
do list”. Looking at cities from
high above is always better than
examining the statues on top of
the cathedrals.
Now it is time for Museum Island,
Museumsinsel, in other words a
complex of museums located on
the Spree River sprawled over an
area of 1 kilometer square that is
in the UNESCO World Heritage
list since 1999. Which museums?
Altes Museum meaning the Old
Museum which dates back to
1830; Neues Museum meaning
the New Museum, which was
built relatively recently in 1859
but was damaged heavily during
the 2nd World War only to be
rebuilt in 2009; 1876 dated Alte
Nationalgalerie, Old National
Gallery, home to works of art
from the 19th century; Bode
Museum where you can enjoy
the statue collections at the
northernmost tip of the island,
late ancient and Byzantine
era pieces and of course the
Pergamonmuseum, that is the
Pergamon Museum dated 1930
which deserves more than just a
paragraph because it is so rich
that it will blow the minds of art
and museum lovers.
The Bergama in Berlin
It is of course much more than
just a weird coincidence that the
name of the world’s most famous
and most visited museum is
Bergama. Bergama, a pretty
district in northern Izmir that
was included in the UNESCO
World Heritage List with its
archeological sites only recently
in 2014 was the capital city of the
Pergamon Empire and the Altar
of Zeus which is the largest find
dating back to that era; however,
the valuable pieces of Bergama
are on display not in Anatolia
but unfortunately in this Berlin
museum which takes its name
from the district itself.

three sections: Collection of
Classical Antiquities, Museum
of the Ancient Near East and
the Museum of Islamic Art. You
