Berlin Katedrali ve
Müzeler Adası
Caddenin bittiği yerde
karşınızda görkemli bir
katedral göreceksiniz:
Berliner Dom. Büyüklüğü ile
katedral olarak isimlendirilen
bu Protestan Kilisesi aslında
içinde hiçbir zaman bir
piskopos yaşamadığı için
gerçek anlamda bir katedral
değilmiş. Sanırım bizim
için fark etmez. İlk olarak
16.yy’da küçük bir yapı
olarak başlayan serüveninde
1700’lerde yıkılıp Barok tarzda
yeniden inşa edilen, sonra
bazı kralların beğenmeyip
bir kısmını yıktırıp yeniden
Neo-Klasik tarzda tasarlattığı,
2. Dünya Savaşı’nda bu defa
bombardımanlardan payını
alarak yeniden yıkılan, son
olarak 1981 yılında kubbeleri
sadeleştirilerek son halini
alan yapı gerçekten büyük
ve etkileyici. Dışarıdan bakıp

the historical street Unter den
Linden, “Under the Linden”,
with a name that is as romantic
as itself. If you drank your
morning coffee in the historical
atmosphere of Einstein Café,
then it is time to hit the streets
once again. We will turn our back
to the Branderburg Gate and
walk towards the Mitte Region in
old East Berlin.
Berlin Cathedral and the
Museum Island
You will see a sublime cathedral
where the street ends: the
Berliner Dom. This Protestant
Church has been named as a
cathedral due to its size, but
actually it was never really a
cathedral since there has never
been a time when a patriarch
lived here. I think it does not
matter for us. It is a really large
and impressive building, built
sometime in the 16th century as
a small structure and later in the
1700s it was demolished and
rebuilt in the Baroque style, parts
of which were demolished again
to be built in the Neo-Classical
style because some kings did not
like it only to be demolished once
again under the bombardments
of the 2nd World War; its domes
were renovated in 1981 thus
giving the structure its final look.
Do not pass by without going in.
You would not want to be that
tourist, who passes by Hagia
Sophia in Istanbul without going
in, would you? You really have to
go in; indeed you have to climb
