“Güzeldir bu şehr-i
dilârâ-yı Bursa/ Şeftalisi
var yiyemedik / İpeklisi
var giyemedik / Kaplıcası
var giremedik/ Lakin
güzel şehirdir Bursa” (9
Temmuz 1948)
Sabahattin Ali ile birlikte
çıkardığı Markopaşa adlı mizah
dergisindeki yazısı yüzünden
yargılanmıştı Aziz Nesin. Önce
20 yıl hapsi istenmiş daha sonra
ise cezası hafifletilerek sürgüne
çevrilmişti. Çarptırıldığı 10 ay
hapis cezasını doldurduktan
sonra 4 ay 10 günlüğüne sürgün
edildi Bursa’ya. Kente ilk gelişi
de burada geçirdiği günler gibi
unutulmaz olmuştu. Aziz Nesin
şehre elleri kelepçeli bir halde
iki asker eşliğinde gelmişti.
Askerlerle birlikte Atatürk
Heykeli’nin önünden geçerken
bir alkış tufanı kopmuş ve Nesin
gösterişli bir törenle girmişti
şehre. Bu durum Aziz Nesin gibi
mütevazı bir adam için utanç
vericiydi. Elleri kelepçeli bir
sürgünün böyle karşılanması ise
tamamen bir tesadüftü. Çünkü
Bursalılar o gün, gelişinin iptal
olduğunu henüz bilmedikleri bir
devlet büyüğünü bekliyorlardı.
Tüm hazırlık Ankara’dan gelecek
olan o devlet büyüğü içindi ama
karşılama töreni Aziz Nesin’e
kısmet olmuştu.
Tanıdık yüzler, yüz
çevirdiler…
Bu sürpriz karşılamanın
ardından Nesin, Jandarma
Karakolu’na götürüldü.
Karşısına getirildiği komutanı
gören Aziz Nesin rahatlamıştı.
Çünkü komutan, onun okuldan
sınıf arkadaşı olan “Hoh
Behçet”ti. Sürgün edildiği
Bursa’ya gelir gelmez tanıdık
bir yüz görmek, Aziz Nesin’i
çok mutlu etmişti. Ancak bu
mutluluğu kursağında kalacaktı
çünkü Behçet Komutan
onu tanımadı daha doğrusu
we couldn’t go / But still
Bursa is a beautiful city “
(July 9, 1948)
He was sentenced because
of an article he wrote in the
comic magazine Markopaşa
that he published together with
Sabahattin Ali. First he was
tried for a jail sentence of 20
years but then his sentence
was extenuated to exile. After
completing the 10 months of
jail time he was sentenced to,
he came to Bursa as an exile
for a period of 4 months and 10
days. The day he entered the
city was as unforgettable as the
days he spent here. Aziz Nesin
entered the city in cuffs and
accompanied by two soldiers.
An overwhelming applause was
heard as he was passing in front
of the Atatürk Statue with the
soldiers and so Nesin entered the
city with a flamboyant ceremony.
This was disgraceful for someone
as humble as Aziz Nesin. It was
a huge coincidence that an exile
in cuffs was greeted in such a
manner. Because the locals of
Bursa were actually expecting a
high ranked government official
who had actually postponed
his visit. All preparations were
actually for the government
official from Ankara, but it was
Aziz Nesin who was greeted.
Familiar faces, turned away
their faces…
Nesin was taken to the
gendarmerie station following
this surprise ceremony. Aziz
Nesin felt relieved when he saw
the commander of the station.
Because the commander was
“Hoh Behçet”, a friend of his
from school. Aziz Nesin was
happy to see a familiar figure as
soon as he came to Bursa as an
exile. However, this happiness
would not last long because
Commander Behçet did not
recognize him, or actually he
acted as if he did not recognize
him. Aziz Nesin was transferred
to the police station right across
the Mountaineering Club. He was
interrogated here after which he
stayed for some time in jail and
went to the hotel where he would
stay. He needed a familiar face,
