Zafer Meydanı’nda bir itfaiye
binası inşa edildi. 1953 yılına
dek kaliteyi arttırmak için yurt
dışından malzemeler getirtildi,
eğitimli personel sayısı sürekli
arttırıldı. Bursa’da çıkan her
yangın felaketinin sonucunda
başka bir eksik fark edildi ve
bu eksikler doğrultusunda
sürekli geliştirilerek modernize
edilen teşkilat bugünkü son
halini aldı.
Kentin yaşanan en büyük
felaketlerinden biri de 1958
yılında gerçekleşen, 1450
dükkan ve evi içindeki
eşyalarla birlikte yok eden
Kapalı Çarşı yangını oldu.
Suların en kıt olduğu

gerçekleşen yangın, Sahaflar

dükkanındaki gaz ocağının
devrilmesiyle çıktığı biliniyor.
Birkaç dakika içinde çarşıyı

motopomp ve 34 personel

was built in Victory Square. To
increase the quality, equipment
were brought from overseas until
1953 and the trained personnel

was discovered and the fire

its current state.
One of the biggest disasters
of the city was the fire that
started in 1958 in Kapalı Çarşı
and destroyed 1450 stores and
housed with its belongings.
The fire started when the water
sources were the lowest, in
August 24. It is known that it
began when a gasoline stove in
a shop in Booksellers’ Bazaar
toppled over. The fire surrounded
the bazaar in a few minutes, and
couldn’t be controlled, despite
6 pumps, 2 motopumps and
34 firefighters. As the fire grew,
everything around it triggered
it and it was put out at 5 A.M.

For Foundations, the fire house,
a newspaper building and a
hotel were completely burned
down. As it was given in the
headlines, it was “The greatest
fire since Bursa was founded”.
This great disaster reinforced the
link between the public and the
fire stations, but many historical
and cultural values, also many
businesses were destroyed
overnight. There was no Kapalı
Çarşı after thirty minutes after
the flame. That night, it was as
if there was hell on earth, and
the heat was pushing its limit
further. Everyone in Bursa had
gathered round the fire. Everyone
was trying to do something,
from running aimlessly to
praying silently in tears. The fire
lasted for 10 hours, and the Ulu
Mosque risked fire 3-4 times that
night. Before midnight, Pirinç
