of only Ahmet Ayık when I hear
the word wrestling. We can give
many such examples. Every
good thing that we do comes
back to us sooner or later. People
should do what they know best
and what they are good at. They
should know how to appreciate
what others have done and to
pursue what they can do instead
of looking at others and saying, “I
can do this too!”. Just as I expect
support for my art, I also try to
support other forms of art and
other artists. Especially Turkish
artists living abroad. This is the
case not only for artists but also
for those who support art and
artists. We all have different
tasks in life. I know my task; it
is to create. To ensure that this
art form survives. Maybe it is
the task of some other person
to embrace it and to make all
the world learn about Bursa and
Turkey. Who accomplishes this
is not important. Be it Hasan
Kale, Ahmet or Mehmet; doesn’t
matter. An artist from Bursa has
made all these. A Turkish artist
has developed it. This is the
important part. I don’t care about
being famous, I want to make
this art form be well known. Even
though this way of thought is
seen as modesty, it is the right
thing to do. If everybody could
think in this way, all labors would
see the value they deserve and
everyone would be happy.
What are the contributions
of micro-art to you and to
the world of art in general?
Handcrafts will never fade away
even if technology advances
as much as it can or the human
factor is diminished as much as
possible. They have survived for
hundreds of years and they will
continue to do so in the future as
well. Contrary to the ever shifting
fashions of technology and
the changing and modernizing
world, handcrafts will always be
present.
Micro-art is such a craft. I
perform this art with my naked
eyes but it requires magnifiers to
view. I communicate with foreign
people in a language that I have
created thanks to this art; I toil
in a pioneering form of art. Of
course, nothing can replace the
peace and happiness this gives
me as an artist. Yes, I had to
sacrifice a lot throughout these
20 years. I could have earned a
lot of money in other fields, but
I do not care since this was not
my priority. It is very enriching
for me to have created works of
art with no criteria in the world.
Micro-art transforms every
overlooked detail of life and
even materials that have been
put aside as trash into works of
art. This was one of my goals.
To open up new windows to life
and create different perspectives
to everything that is known to
exist but has been overlooked.
To create capsules of art using
“trash”.
What are your future plans
for micro-art?
I opened many exhibitions in
Bursa, Turkey and all over the
world. Some of my artworks are
on exhibit at different museums
as well. However, the most
important goal I have in this
field is to open up a museum. I
want it to be in Turkey but after
toiling for 10 years in this field,
I started saying, “I can open
this museum in any country that
gives the attention that micro-art
deserves”. I did not give up and
I never will. I also met a group in
Japan. I am considering a book
project with them that includes
all my works in their original
dimensions. A special book that
comes with a special Hasan Kale
signed magnifier that everyone
will want to see even if they are
interested in micro-art or have
heard it for the first time. I wish I
could have found the support I
need here in Bursa and had the
means to carry out this project in
my own country.
What do you do other than
micro-art? How do you
spend your time?
I design jewelry and work as
an art director for a motorcycle
manufacturer in Turkey, but I
am so into micro-art that I can
easily say I have no other life.
Because I make use of the works
of art I create while designing
jewelry as well. Apart from all
this, for example we designed a
motorcycle with 1903 parts for
the stadium opening ceremony of
Beşiktaş. Production and design
have no end and I am very
happy when I think that I have
succeeded all these without any
education and by my own efforts.
Mikro sanat adına gelecek
için planlarınız neler?
Bugüne kadar Bursa’da,
Türkiye’de ve dünyanın
birçok ülkesinde sergiler
açtım. Eserlerimin arasında
müzelerde sergilenenler de
var. Ancak bu alandaki en
büyük hedefim Türkiye’de
bir müze açmak. Özellikle
Türkiye olsun istiyorum ama
son 10 yıldır bu konuda
yaptığım çalışmalardan sonra
artık “Beni dünyada mikro
sanata hak ettiği değeri
veren herhangi bir ülkede de
açabilirim” demeye başladım.
Pes etmedim, etmeyeceğim
de. Bir de Japonya’da bir
grupla tanıştım. Onlarla tüm
eserlerimin kendi boyutlarında
basıldığı bir kitap projesi
düşünüyorum. Hasan Kale
imzalı özel bir büyüteç ile
birlikte sunulan, mikro sanatına
ilgi duyan duymayan herkesin
görmek isteyeceği özel bir
kitap. Keşke olsa da Bursa’da
bu konuda destek bulsam
ve bu özel projeyi kendi
memleketimde yapma imkânı
bulsam.
Mikro sanat dışındaki
hayatınız nasıl? Zamanınız
nasıl geçiyor?
Mücevher tasarımları ve
Türkiye’nin motosiklet
üreten bir firmasının sanat
direktörlüğünü yapıyorum
ama mikro sanatıyla, onun
dışında bir hayatım olmadığını
söyleyecek kadar iç içeyim.
Çünkü ürettiğim eserleri,
diğer alanım olan mücevher
tasarımlarına uyguluyorum.
Bunun dışında örneğin
Beşiktaş’ın stat açılışında
1903 parçadan oluşan
bir motosiklet tasarladık.
Üretmenin, tasarımın sonu yok
ve bu konuda hiçbir eğitim
almadan, yalnızca kendi
kendimi yetiştirerek bu noktaya
geldiysem ne mutlu bana diye
düşünüyorum.
